Visit to Japan by the Minister of Women¡Çs Affairs of the Royal Government of Cambodia (October 8-10, 2010)

From October 8 to October 10, we were honored to welcome Her Excellency Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women¡Çs Affairs of the Royal Government of Cambodia to the National Women's Education Center.

The visit was made possible through the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan¡Çs International Exchange Project in the New Century Invitation Program in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on Exchange and Cooperation concluded on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, between the Ministry of Women¡Çs Affairs of the Royal Government of Cambodia and the National Women's Education Center of Japan.

After paying a goodwill visit on October 8, 2010, to Ms. Kumiko Bando, Director-General of the Lifelong Learning Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Minister Phavi held talks with Ms. Tomiko Okazaki, Minister of State for Social Affairs and Gender Equality of Japan, on gender equality policies in both countries.

On the morning of October 9, a roundtable discussion was held for Minister Phavi. Her Excellency Dr. Phavi exchanged opinions with experts in the field of gender equality, including administrative officials, researchers, and practitioners of international cooperation, about issues of gender equality policy administration in Cambodia and ideal forms of its official development aid. In the afternoon, she attended the FY2010 International Forum for Women¡Çs Empowerment organized by the National Women's Education Center of Japan, at which she gave a keynote speech titled ¡ÈWomen¡Çs Leadership and Education in Cambodia ¡½ How Far We Came and How to Carry On¡É.

The National Women's Education Center of Japan is committed to furthering exchange and ties with the Ministry of Women¡Çs Affairs of the Royal Government of Cambodia through collaborative research and information exchange programs dealing with gender equality and women¡Çs education issues.
