FY2008 International Forum for Women's Empowerment

1. OBJECTIVES

Based on the global theme of women’s human rights, women’s capacity and human resource development, international experts are invited to analyze the problems in the Asia-Pacific region. Through information and opinion sharing, it is hoped to strengthen the network among international researchers, government officials and leaders of women’s civil rights groups.

This year’s forum will focus on the issues of human trafficking. Experts from various agencies such as international organizations, NGOs, government, private institutions, academic and so on will be invited to make a presentation on the current situation and ways on counter trafficking activities. Discussion will be made on the ways to tackle the problem and necessary measures to solve these issues. Through discussions, it is hoped to strengthen network among the participants and activities for international cooperation, awareness raising education and involvement of the community level participation.

Session Meeting I :Issue of Rescue and Protection
Discuss necessary measures to deploy immediate and safe access to rescue, reaching out to all the potential victims of trafficking

Session Meeting II:Rehabilitation and Empowerment
Discuss measures necessary to realize long-term recovery from the damages of violence, self-supporting life and recovery, and children and other issues.

Session Meeting III STOP on DEMAND: Prevention, Education and Awareness Raising
Will look at current best practices of preventive education・awareness raising measures to stop the issue of “demand”
