From the former National Women's Education Center toIndependent Administrative Institution-National Women's Education Center

1977 July Establishment of the National Women's Education Center as an institution affiliated to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. Initially, it comprised the Administrative Division and the Program Division.
November The opening ceremony was held.
1978 April Establishment of the Information and International Exchange Division.
August Commencement of registration of NWEC volunteers.
1979 November Founding of the library.
1987 May The total number of users of NWEC exceeded 1,000,000.
November Opening of the Information Center for Women’s Education.
1991 July Launch of the on-line information retrieval service(WINET).
1993 April Recognized as'Research Organization'as provided for in the'Regulations on the Use of Scientific Research Grants'
1994 April Presentation of the report"Future Concepts for the National Women's Education Center"by the Committee to Study Future Concepts for NWEC.
1995 December Launch of the NWEC Website on the Internet
1996 November The total number of users of NWEC exceeded 2,000,000.
1999 January Updating of the computer system(The WINET database and information on the availability of facilities was made publicly accessible via the NWEC Website)
2000 March Commencement of public access to WinetCASS,-NWEC's news information system on women
2001 April Reorganization of NWEC into an independent administrative institution.
July Establishment of the Steering Committee for the Independent Administrative Institution - the National Women's Education Center(The first meeting was held in August 2001).
2002 March Installation of stand-alone air conditioning units in each of the residential and seminar rooms.
November Establishment of Office of Research and International Affairs
2006 April Start of the Second Five-Year medium-term plan
November Total number of NWEC users exceeds 3,000,000
